Video: Salam at Arab League: Lifting Sanctions on Syria Benefits Lebanon and the Region
Lebanon Committed to Sovereignty and Regional Stability
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that "Lebanon has opened a new page in its history by asserting the sovereignty of the state over its entire territory, confining weapons to its control, and owning the decision of war and peace."
In his address at the Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Salam added: "The Lebanese state is working to fully implement Resolution 1701 out of respect for international legitimacy and reconstruction efforts, and we call for international pressure on Israel to withdraw from our lands."
He continued: "We are still suffering from the Israeli occupation, daily violations, and the refusal to release prisoners, and what is encouraging thr Israeli enemy to keep violating the agreement's terms is the lack of accountability."
Salam also affirmed: "We are ready to cooperate with Syria to return the displaced to their safe villages, and we seek to control the borders and prevent smuggling, and lifting the sanctions on Syria will have a positive impact on Lebanon".
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Salam reiterated Lebanon’s firm support for the Palestinian people in reclaiming their legitimate rights and rejected all proposals of resettlement or displacement of the Palestinian population.
