After Disruption of Iranian Support...Hezbollah Faces Financial Strain Amid Compensation Delays
Al-Qard Al-Hassan is struggling, with no option but to resort to the state
An informed source has described Hezbollah's financial situation as "strained", particularly amid ongoing confusion regarding compensation payments.
Al-Qard Al-Hassan, Hezbollah’s financial institution, announced a postponement of compensation payments until February 10, 2025, citing technical issues related to internal procedures. However, in a swift turnaround, Hezbollah’s regional offices instructed beneficiaries to collect their payment orders, with a disbursement schedule to be determined soon through the institution’s branches.
According to the same source, Al-Qard Al-Hassan is experiencing a funding crisis, largely due to the disruption of Iranian financial support. This situation leaves both the institution and Hezbollah with no alternative but to rely on the Lebanese state, which is backed by its Arab allies and international legitimacy, to support reconstruction efforts in villages affected by Israeli strikes.
The source noted that Al-Qard Al-Hassan serves as Hezbollah’s primary financial link to its support base. The Israeli attacks on its branches during the recent conflict have significantly disrupted its operations, potentially straining Hezbollah’s relationship with its community.
Speaking to "Akhbar Al-Yawm", the source expressed concern that many families affected by the war may not receive their compensation, exacerbating economic hardships.
Meanwhile, political observers warn that the inability to fully cover compensation payments could fuel resentment within Hezbollah’s support base. Such frustrations, if not addressed, could manifest publicly, reflecting broader dissatisfaction with the economic and psychological toll of the conflict.
