Trump insists Iran set back 'decades' after leaked report suggests strike had limited impact

President Donald Trump has insisted the strike on Iran's nuclear facilities set them back "decades" as he pushed back against media reports based on a leaked US intelligence assessment that suggested the strike had limited impact.

The highly classified report, produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency and US Central Command, contradicts statements from Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the status of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Over the weekend, the US struck the Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites after Israel claimed it needed American bunker buster bombs to help support the operation.

Sources who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity said the US caused significant damage to the structures but said the sites were not totally destroyed.

Speaking at the NATO summit on Wednesday Trump rubbished the media, describing CNN and The New York Times - who were among the first to report on the document - as "scum".
