Derbas to "Akhbar al-Yawm": when the Lebanese unite around simple things, the country regains its position

At a time when Israel was trying to establish itself as a link between the East and the West, and is trying to normalize here and build transport bridges there, as the New Economic Corridor route from India to Europe will be through Haifa, the "Al-Aqsa Storm" operation surprised Israel's military and security agencies, and it found itself in a position of defeat.

Is it possible for Lebanon to "take advantage of the situation" and restore its historical role as a gateway to the East?

The former minister Rashid Derbas answered briefly: "the Lebanese must unite". He added in an interview to the "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency: “There are several points around which we can unite, the most prominent of which are:

- Anti-Israelism (it is a foregone conclusion);

- Not accepting that Lebanon is accommodating asylum, specifically Syrian asylum (and there is a consensus on this issue);

- Building a real state with two conditions: to have a president and the unity of power;

- That Lebanon will turn into an attractive Center for investment, and then the economic movement will confirm that it is impossible to write off the port of Beirut from the map and replace it with the port of Haifa, and the evidence today is that Ben Gurion Airport is not safe".

Derbas explained that when the Lebanese unite around these simple things, and about the fact that the state is interests and not a platform for speeches, then Lebanon will return as it was before as a beacon and a language for the East...

He pointed out that at this stage, the utmost solidarity with our brothers in Palestine is necessary, calling on the Lebanese government, with what it has the potential to play a role with the Arab brothers, specifically Egypt and Jordan, as they can play a role in mitigating the Israeli attack, and also with the Gulf countries that have good relations with the United States, i.e. the only party that can restrain Israel, and we hear talk that Washington may become a partner in the fight and not only supportive.

He considered that these things are practical and easy for Lebanon to do.

In light of all this, has the presidential entitlement file been postponed until further notice? Derbas explained that what is happening in Gaza should be an incentive for all parties in Lebanon to elect a president as soon as possible in order to protect Lebanon from what is happening.
