Jaber heads to Baghdad for high-level energy, Telecom talks
The visit has multiple objectives
Finance Minister, Yassine Jaber, on Monday departed for Baghdad to hold meetings with senior Iraqi officials aimed at enhancing bilateral coordination, particularly in the areas of fuel supply for Lebanon’s electricity sector, telecommunications, and the proposed oil pipeline project.
Speaking from Rafic Hariri International Airport, Jaber said the visit has multiple objectives.
“In addition to expressing Lebanon’s gratitude for Iraq’s ongoing support, especially the provision of fuel during wartime, and more recently wheat and social aid—we will discuss a range of joint interests,” Jaber noted.
Jaber added that discussions will cover electricity, telecommunications, and the extension of fiber optic connections potentially linking Lebanon to Europe via Iraq. Talks will also address the pipeline project and settlement of outstanding financial obligations owed by Lebanon.
Before departing, Jaber met with Education Minister Rima Karami to discuss a framework for addressing the needs of Lebanon’s educational sector.
