Geagea from Baabda: Five Months Into Aoun’s Presidency, Not a Trace of Corruption

Time for real state in Lebanon

Lebanese Forces leader, Samir Geagea, on Tuesday announced “full consensus” with President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on key internal decisions following recent developments, after meeting the president at Baabda Palace.

Geagea affirmed that “communication with President Aoun never ceased, before or after his election,” adding that the meeting included an assessment of the current situation and agreement on the steps required domestically. “The alignment was one hundred percent,” he said.

Geagea expressed confidence in President Aoun’s “clear intention and determination to establish a real state in Lebanon,” noting that “significant progress” had already been made in that direction.

Moreover, Geagea stressed, “It is time to build a functioning state in Lebanon, a need shared by all Lebanese, even before it is a foreign demand.”

On regional dynamics, Geagea said: “There was an abnormal situation stretching from Yemen to Lebanon. I believe we are heading toward a serious U.S.-Iranian understanding that aligns with Lebanon’s best interests.”

Geagea also underlined the need for a unified army and for decisions on war and peace to rest solely with the government.

Asked about his impression of the current presidency, Geagea said: “In the past five months, I have not sensed any whiff of corruption in this term.”
