Lebanese poultry safe: No human risk, Syndicate slams false claims

Alleged infection of poultry with a disease transmissible to humans

The Lebanese Poultry Syndicate, headed by William Boutros, issued a statement today expressing its “deep regret over the circulation of false information by some media outlets regarding the alleged infection of poultry in Lebanon with a disease transmissible to humans.”

The syndicate affirmed that “no such diseases exist, nor any other diseases beyond the usual ones that may affect poultry, which are treated by veterinary doctors.” It called on certain media outlets to “consult the Ministry of Agriculture to obtain accurate information before publishing such reports,” warning that “dealing lightly with this issue could severely damage the sector and cause substantial losses to farmers, who have not yet recovered from the damages sustained during the Israeli aggression.”

The syndicate also emphasized that “poultry production in Lebanon is among the best in the world, as it is conducted with the highest quality standards and in compliance with global norms, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant government bodies.”
