Holy Fire lights up Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The resurrection of Jesus Christ 

The Holy Fire ceremony, a revered Orthodox Christian tradition, took place today, April 19, 2025, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Thousands of worshippers gathered to witness the event, which symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ and has been celebrated for over a millennium.

The ritual involves the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem entering the Edicule, the small shrine believed to house Jesus' tomb, where he prays until the Holy Fire is said to miraculously appear. The flame is then shared among the faithful, who light candles and lamps, spreading the light throughout the church and beyond .
