Lebanon towards stability…New arrangement under American supervision!

The upcoming local authority will be in line with the expected regional approach

US envoy Amos Hochstein ended his visit to Beirut, announcing: "We have made positive progress in negotiations with President Nabih Berri, and I will travel to Israel to try to reach a solution".

Despite this positivity, optimism is cautious, but if the negotiations are successful and a ceasefire is reached, the main question is: "Will internal crises that have been pending for years be addressed, foremost of which is the presidency of the Republic?

A political source says, via the "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency, that "the existing negotiations for a ceasefire, whether in Lebanon or in Gaza, indicate a new arrangement for the region under American supervision, including Arab and Israeli interests". He added: "When the conditions of this large regional arrangement are concluded, its results will reach Lebanon, and a complete integrated and composed authority will be formed in Lebanon starting with the election of the president of the Republic and then the formation of the government”.

"Despite the ongoing war, this arrangement will be positive for Lebanon, as the region is going to stability and peace", the source said.

In response to a question, the source pointed out that "the election of the future president will be similar to the 1958 elections, so that Fouad Chehab did not come to the presidency as a result of an internal consensus but as a result of an Arab-American understanding, and the presidents of the Republic after 1992 were elected as a result of a Syrian-American understanding, and today political power will come as a result of a regional and international political arrangement adopted and supervised by Washington", pointing out that "the heads of government and the Republic will be integrated in order to arrange a local authority in line with the new regional approach".

Is there a fear of disruption? The source replied: "The Shiite duo represented by President Berri led the negotiations, and this applies to the prime minister Najib Mikati, the Sunni representative in the government at the moment, and Hochstein's visit to both President Michel Aoun and Dr. Samir Geagea in order to gain Christian cover even if they are out of power, and not to mention the meeting with the Druze leader Walid Jumblatt, whom the American envoy met before heading to Tel Aviv.

The same source concluded: "Things are going as scheduled".
