Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed today, Saturday, at the beginning of the Cabinet session, that he requested a reconsideration of the issue of employee compensation in the public and military sectors, as well as the productivity allowance for employees in the public and military sectors and retirees.
"Yesterday I held a series of financial meetings, during which it became clear that there is still a disparity between employees in the public sector and the military. Therefore, I asked to wait to complete the study of this file until all the numbers are reviewed," PM Mikati said.
Mikati added: "Meetings will be held next week with representatives of the army, the internal security forces, and retirees, with the participation of any ministers wishing to attend the meeting."
He continued: “As a result of communications with the Central Bank, I wished to wait to resolve this file until all the numbers were reviewed, to avoid any negative impact on the stability of the exchange rate.”
Mikati also expressed his annoyance at being accused of monopolizing the management of the country.
“...There is a vacuum, so blame should be directed at those who caused this matter, not at those who seek to run the country to prevent the negative impact of the vacuum,” he indicated.
In this context, Mikati reiterated the call for electing a President of the Republic as soon as possible in order to reach the desired solutions for the good of all Lebanese, not just one sect, or one group alone.
