Displaced people have lost their belonging to their motherland...

The European Union's Spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa, Luis Miguel Bueno, announced in a media interview yesterday that "there is no return for displaced Syrians at the moment" and called for "their assistance in Lebanon".

At a time when Lebanon is suffering under the burden of receiving displaced Syrians at all economic, social and living levels, delaying solutions and keeping the file stuck, these Syrians lose any belonging to their mother country, and Lebanon becomes their homeland.

A source criticizes, via the "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency, the European handling of this file, saying: "They accuse others of racism and do not apply it in their countries," Miguel Bueno said, describing the approach taken by the international community, specifically the European community, considering that it has been a continuous approach since the beginning of the Syrian Arab war, where previously the UNHCR High Commissioner for Refugees and some civil society organizations were at the forefront, but in the face of the worsening situation and pressure, the European Union was forced to attack host countries and defend the displaced”.

The source points out that the European performance raises many questions, the most prominent is: Why does the international community not pay money to Syrians when they return to their homes?

He adds: If Europe does not want to talk directly with the Syrian regime, it is possible to resort to intermediaries, foremost of which is the UNHCR itself and many UN organizations that have many offices on Syrian territory. He stresses that it is not possible to take revenge on the people and the regime by punishing the Lebanese people, which changes the nature and demography of Lebanon.

Here, the source explains that after the displacement and uprooting of a people and placing it in another country, similar to what is happening in Syria, it is natural for the people to get used to the new land and coexist there, especially if they were born and raised there.

He explains that the homeland is a moral concept, that is, where a person is born and lives, and the entity is the economic and social formula, as for the state, it is the management of this entity, and based on these concepts, the syrian who was born, raised and grew up in Lebanon or who came as a child, will connect to it.

Therefore, the same source continues: these refugees are born in Lebanon, acquire the Lebanese dialect, learn the Lebanese school curricula, and enjoy the personal freedoms available in Lebanon, which mainly benefited females, their return to Syria is becoming more difficult day after day. On the other hand, the Syrian society, especially the rural one -where the largest percentage of the displaced- transferred its negative habit to Lebanon, and the number of revenge and honor crimes increased... In addition to attempted rape and many other crimes.

The source concludes by saying: but Lebanon also bears responsibility as a result of the chaos prevailing in it and the absence of law enforcement, where as a result of this chaos, every Syrian and also every foreigner exercises the highest degrees of freedom.
