Vatican is willing to discuss with the Lebanese Patriachs the international conference for Lebanon

| Wednesday 23 June 2021

On July 1, leaders of Catholic Christian confessions travel to Rome in a gathering that includes 13 patriarchs in response to the Vatican's invitation, after conflicting reports.

The Vatican asked for clarifications from Bkerke, who used the text of a joint declaration by the Patriarchs of Heads of Churches to send it, signed on behalf of all, to the Vatican ... and discuss unifying issues.

However, the declaration document was not signed by Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II and Armenian Patriarch Aram Kishishian knowing that the conference dedicated to Lebanon, to be held on July 1 at  the Vatican, will discuss, according to sources close to Bkerké,  a unified Christian vision, towards the initiative of Bkerké.

These sources warn against the media marketing that some resort to, saying the Vatican does not want a unified declaration and that it has not asked for it, so it has called for the participation of all church leaders!  the same sources said that  its appeal to church leaders came with the aim of unanimously agreeing that it would be in the interest of the international conference on Lebanon. This is why they were also invited to a consultation meeting in Bkerké, in order to conclude a unified and refined document.

In this context, the same sources tell Al-Jumhuriya that the Vatican  will adopt a discussion on Bkerke's initiative because the majority of the patriarchs signed the declaration to unify the Christian vision after the Vatican was certain of the change to come to the Orient, knowing that the discussion will also address and propose solutions to the Christian presence throughout the Eastern region, as it is clear that the Vatican is concerned about minorities in this region and fears the change looming in the horizon and which therefore needs a unified and clear Christian vision in order to avoid the fragmentation of Christians. Thus, the meeting of July first,  will lobby for the international conference for Lebanon, which will revolve around 6 main points:

1- Implementation of UN resolutions

2- Acceptance of the neutrality of Lebanon

3- Help reconfigure the support of  supplies

4- Help fight against corruption and recover looted funds

5- Resolve the refugee issue

6- Help in resolving financial crisis
