Jan. 9 session: President's name with Berri, Ambassadors to attend Presidential election

Parliamentary sources: There must be a consensual president who keeps pace with the accelerated developments

The House of Representatives began preparations for the January 9 session in terms of positive results. According to well-informed parliamentary sources, it will be held on the scheduled date and a quorum will be secured, and therefore there is a very high possibility of electing a president of the Republic, especially since Speaker of the House of Representatives Nabih Berri invited ambassadors to attend the presidential election session.

The sources pointed out via the "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency, that discussions are still ongoing regarding names and candidates, revealing that the "name of the president" has become perhaps with President Berri...

The sources said: There is great keenness by the political forces to elect a new president of the country at this session, as the accelerating regional developments require the presence of a president and the formation of a national unity government in order to revive institutions, and thus avoid entering into the complexities of the regional and international scene.

The sources believe that if the election is not held, things will be postponed at least until next spring, knowing that no one is interested in such a postponement, hence, it is necessary to come up with a consensus on the president (name, specifications and program), noting that the opposition is putting some obstacles around some names.

But in the end, these sources confirm that it is very likely that the Lebanese will have a new consensual president by the beginning of the new year, and after that the parliament will witness the return of political and legislative life with great momentum.
