Gemayel from Paris: Urgent steps needed to save Lebanon

Kataeb Party leader, MP Samy Gemayel, has embarked on a visit to Paris, where he will spend several days engaging with key officials.

The visit aims to shed light on the critical situation in Lebanon and the risks of a prolonged, unresolved conflict.

Gemayel began his meetings with an extended discussion with François-Xavier Bellamy, a French Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chair of the European People's Party in the European Parliament, a partner of the Kataeb Party.

During the meeting, Gemayel provided a detailed account of the severe developments on the Lebanese scene, imposed on the Lebanese people against their will, which has so far resulted in irreparable losses in both lives and property.

The Kataeb leader conveyed his party's perspective on the urgent steps needed to save Lebanon.

He emphasized the immediate need for a ceasefire and called on the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament to take swift action in unilaterally declaring an end to hostilities.

He also urged decisive measures to reclaim state sovereignty, implement international resolutions, and ensure that weapons are exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese Army, which should be deployed along the borders and entrusted with defending the country in cooperation with international forces.

Gemayel highlighted the critical role that friendly nations can play in this regard.

The pair underscored the importance of reaching comprehensive and lasting solutions to halt the recurring cycle of military conflict in the region, which invariably impacts Lebanon, altering its structure and identity and diverting it from its pivotal role in the Middle East.

Bellamy reaffirmed the European Union's support for Lebanon, its sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.

He pledged to mobilize friends and partners within the EU and beyond to assist in rescuing Lebanon, restoring its sovereignty, and preventing any new attempts to undermine its independence or violate its territory.
