EDL announced on Saturday that it had deliberately put one of the generators at the Zahrani power plant out of service in order to allow the other units to operate for longer. This "preventive" approach will make it possible to ensure a prolonged supply of vital public service entities in Lebanon.
In its press release, EDL justifies "its preventive approach, which remains independent of its will", by the fact that no cargo of Iraqi fuel has been allocated for the months of July or August to EDL as part of the Lebanese-Iraqi agreement which stipulates an exchange of Iraqi fuel for services provided by Lebanon.
