Setrida Geagea: It is no longer possible to tolerate any laxity or leniency in resolving the issue of displaced Syrians

MP Setrida Geagea considered that “the Syrian presence in Lebanon is an illegal presence, and we can no longer use the term refugees or asylum seekers to describe this presence, based on the agreement signed in 2003 between the Lebanese state and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which stipulates that: “Lebanon is a transit country and never a country of asylum.”

Geagea’s words came during a meeting of the administrative body of the “Cedars Mountain Foundation”, in Maarab, in the presence of members of MPs and partisans.

Geagea stressed that “it is no longer possible to tolerate any laxity or leniency in resolving this issue, which threatens Lebanon and the Lebanese at all levels: economic, financial, monetary and security.”

For this reason, the MP met with the relevant officials directly to urge the officials to exercise their authority, in order to preserve the rights of the Lebanese citizen.
