The contrast with the Duo is closer to an undeclared disagreement

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, raised the tone in his press conference yesterday, accusing the "Shiite duo" of seeking to steal the powers of the president of the Republic, and excluding Christians from their leading role in government and the state, and said in this regard: "the caretaker government without a president behaves as a government with full powers and without a national partnership, national unity and without Partnership, there is no Lebanon".

Observers read in this Bassil's escalation a new attempt to blackmail the party, and dissuade it from standing neutral amid the political conflict between it and the head of the caretaker government Najib Mikati, at a time when the latter does not take any step in confronting the head of the FPM without prior consultation with the speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and therefore with the party, especially since they agreed in advance since before the vacuum of the presidency, to manage the stage through the caretaker government.

Political sources close to the party, speaking to "Akhbar al-Yawm" agency, consider that Bassil disagrees with the "Shiite duo" in terms of dealing with the dilemma of the Mikati government, whether in terms of determining the criteria for setting the agenda or in evaluating its items. As for the issue of presidential entitlement, Bassil's contrast with the Duo is closer to an undeclared disagreement.

Apart from all that, what provoked Bassil's anger in the party's dealings with the Mikati government is not new, but since he felt great betrayal after the extension of the Army Commander Joseph Aoun.
