Beirut sends investigators to France where its ambassador is accused of rape

Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that it will soon send a commission to France to investigate Lebanese Ambassador Rami Adwan, who is under investigation by French judicial authorities for rape and intentional violence. after complaints from two ex-employees of the embassy.

France on Friday asked Lebanon to lift the diplomatic immunity of Mr. Adwan, who has served as Lebanon's ambassador to France since 2017.

In a press release published on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that it has decided "to send to Paris a commission of inquiry led by the secretary general of the ministry and its director of inspection at the embassy in Paris to investigate the ambassador and listen to testimonies from embassy employees and administrative workers."

Bustros Palace adds that it will ask the French authorities to "clarify what has been reported in the media and that the Lebanese Foreign Ministry has not received through official diplomatic procedures, so that it can legally act accordingly in a manner that safeguards the public interest".

Finally, the ministry says it is "wishing to act responsibly in the case presented, so as to protect the reputation and rank of the Lebanese state".
