Talking about supporting any candidate so far is still difficult

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, expresses his annoyance and displeasure, on the protest movement launched by the two deputies, Melhem Khalaf and Najat Saliba.

Prominent parliamentary sources confirm that President Berri will not currently call for Sessions to elect a president of the Republic, especially since it is likely that the quorum will not be completed, as the deputies of the Democratic Gathering stressed the dialogue between all parties and political forces before holding any new election session.

Sources indicate that the consensus between the parliamentary blocs and political forces is what a number of political figures and forces are seeking, knowing that there is a trend, as sources say, to elect candidate Sleiman Frangieh, even with 65 votes in the second session, but discussions are currently underway on securing a quorum to hold this session, but it is not available yet.

The sources point out that the current conditions are completely different from those witnessed by Lebanon between 2014 and 2016, which led to the election of General Michel Aoun as president, and the regional and international circumstances are completely different. For this reason, it is still difficult to talk about supporting any candidate so far, since the countries have not yet said their word in this regard. The sources consider that everything has changed and it is not possible to rely on the issue of names that is being raised unless there is an external change in dealing with Lebanon.

Regarding the sit-in of the deputies Khalaf and Saliba, it is ongoing, and a number of change deputies and others are joining them, and sources point out that this sit-in will not reach anything, but it is a cry towards holding sessions and electing a president of the Republic because the country can no longer bear a vacuum.
