Attention was drawn yesterday to the invitation of the judicial investigator, Judge Tarek-al Bitar to participate in the Supreme Judicial Council meeting and to discuss matters related to what is being raised about the port investigations, so al-Bitar attended and explained to the council the obstacles faced by his investigations and his summonses by the non-response of the defendants.
According to Nidaa al-Watan’s information, however, the judicial investigator chose “during a session that lasted about half an hour” with the Judicial Council not to address the content of the investigations as they are confidential, and neither the Council nor any other party has the right to question him about them or to be informed of their content, only answering “some of them.” The Supreme Judicial Council issued a brief statement in which it stressed the importance of “working to complete the investigation as soon as possible in accordance with legal principles, in order to achieve justice and determine responsibilities against the perpetrators.”
Judge al-Bitar seems insisting on completing his investigations as long as the file continues in his custody.
According to the information, the judicial investigator set an interrogation session for former Prime Minister Hassan Diab on the 28th of this month, and would issue an arrest warrant against Diab in the event of his failure to attend, provided that the same measure is taken against all those who fail to appear before him.
