Ghobril: Here's why the exchange rate went down

| Monday 26 July 2021

Nassib Ghobril, chief economist of the Byblos Bank group, mentioned several factors that led to the decline in the exchange rate, stressing that the parallel market is not transparent and is not subject to supervision, and therefore no factors unique cannot be identified.

Ghobril said through "Akhbar Al-Yawm" that the decline is not the result of economic, financial or monetary changes.

There is no bailout.

It should first be noted that the banks have no income with this increase.

Ghobril explained these factors:

- When the dollar hit over 22,000, there were people who resorted to selling their dollars to make a profit.

- Lack of liquidity in the Lebanese currency, in addition to the dollar.

- Expat visits to Lebanon, especially in the last ten days, coinciding with Adha's feast, and they have injected dollars into the local market, in addition to withdrawing their money from banks in Lebanese pounds.
