Details about Basil's negotiations with Salameh reveal the subtleties of his summoning

The first meeting ended very badly.

The summoning of Bank of Lebanon's Governor Riad Salameh by the discriminatory public defender, Judge Jean Tannous, was not surprising, given that Tannous was supposed to be investigating a file related to the investigation launched by the Swiss public prosecutor who had sent a letter about it to the Lebanese public prosecutor.

Surprisingly, the Swiss judiciary effectively cut off its investigation after it became clear that the dossier against Salameh was devoid of any serious information, with the exception of some Lebanese - based media reports funded for political and financial purposes that are no longer hidden.

But the Lebanese judiciary's move was separate from that of the Swiss judiciary and should have been in concert with it because the basis of the supposed investigation lies in the Swiss capital of Bern.

This dismissal is due to the refusal of the Swiss judiciary to use it for Lebanese political purposes. Unlike in Lebanon, everything is permissible in terms of the use of the judiciary for political and financial purposes, senior political sources told "Akhbar Al-Yawm" agency", the proof of this fact is the attack by one of the reluctant newspapers on the Swiss judiciary and on the former ambassador of Switzerland to Lebanon, after this newspaper cheered the move of the Swiss prosecutor.

Senior political sources point out that the basis of the recent judicial move against the central governor lies in the latter's refusal to compromise on spending from the mandatory reserve.

In the details revealed by political sources, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Gibran Bassil requested a meeting with Salameh two months ago, Salameh visited Basil at his home in al-Bayyadah. In the meeting, Bassil insisted that the central governor should continue to spend from the mandatory reserve until the last day of the covenant, whatever the consequences, so that things do not explode dangerously in the face of the Covenant and his team. Salameh, on the other hand, insisted on rejecting Bassil's requests, noting that smuggling that consumes Lebanese money must stop, and that a new government must be urgently formed and reforms must begin.

The first meeting ended very badly, and Salameh refused to hold periodic meetings with party officials. But at his insistence, a second meeting was no better than the first, and it ended with the same result: Bassil's insistence on spending, especially on the summer season, and Salameh's insistence on refusing to touch the reserve because of the danger to all Lebanese and the flagrant violation of the law. The meeting was not without harsh messages from Bassil towards Salameh, field actions against the central bank in case of non-response.

The two men then met about two weeks ago at a financial meeting at Baabda Palace, in which Salameh were pressured to pay the money, Salameh insisted on his attitude of disapproval.

Bassil continued his attempt to communicate with Salameh even after his last trip but, however, he remained adamant that a government must be formed to address the issues, not through spending.

The sources asked: Did Judge Jean Tannous summon Salameh less than 72 hours after the last communication between Bassil and Salameh, and 72 hours after the recusal of the president-in-charge Saad Hariri?

It must be pointed out also that the "Free Patriotic Movement" organized on Monday evening, after the news of the summons leaked, a march towards the Bank of Lebanon in Jounieh to put pressure on the governor.
