This is not the first time that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad  says that there are between $ 40 billion and $ 60 billion in deposits for Syrian invetors in Lebanese banks, hence the inability of the economy Syrian woman to recover.

These sources confirmed that Syrian deposits in Lebanese banks could barely reach $ 6 billion, because Syrian financiers, even before the outbreak of the war in Syria and during the Syrian tutelage over Lebanon, avoided placing their money in Lebanese banks, since they were aware of the ease of access of the agencies of the Syrian regime to these deposits, and then exert pressure on their owners. So, they preferred to deposit their deposits and interests in other countries like Egypt, the Emirates, Jordan, Turkey and European countries too, knowing that the relationship between the Lebanese banking system and the Syrian depositors is old and dates back to the sixties, and some of these former applicants have become Lebanese nationals.

Banking sources said that Lebanese banks do not classify deposits according to the nationality of depositors, so it is difficult to determine an exact number related to the value of Syrian deposits, but in any case, it is impossible that they reach the numbers Assad spoke of. These sources revealed that the dollar deposits in Lebanese banks amount to 107 billion dollars. Is it possible that the Syrians have more than half? Noting that the volume of deposits of non-residents reaches 21% of the total deposits in dollars and Lebanese pounds, which amount to 135 billion dollars, and among these the deposits of the Lebanese diaspora.

Lebanese banking sources were surprised by these remarks and declared through the news agency "Akhbar Al-Yawm" that the reason for the failure of the growth of the Syrian economy is the war that the country has known since 2011, and the sanctions imposed on Syria, its regime and its institutions. In addition, the reconstruction process has not yet started, neither by the government nor by the allied countries. These sources stressed that Assad's remarks are part of the pretexts through which he tries to justify the stagnation and decline of the Syrian economy, and ignore the internal problems that the regime is suffering..
